The YE program is divided into four years: Relationship building with self, community, Communication, Leadership, and Community Action. While the sessions in each year can be used independently, the four years are designed to build on one another and to inform leadership or action projects that apply the principles and frameworks of youth development.
In the first year, youth develop and deepen their concepts of leadership. Youth are supported in thinking critically about their personal leadership styles and strengths. The leadership retreats will:

In year two — Communication — youth develop interpersonal skills and use of effective group processes. Key skills include active listening, debate and compromise, and decision-making. The skills, knowledge, and attitudes developed in this section help youth employ effective practices of leadership.
These will be in the form of a series of workshops that prepares kids for the professional world, which includes but is not limited to resume workshops, dress for success series, financial literacy teachings, and more. Familiarizing them with the world at hand, so that they may enter in, both confident and grounded, ready to excel in whatever career endeavor they choose.

Year three is designed to help youth thrive academically. We believe that by providing access to the proper resources, tutoring, college prep, accountability training, and counseling that our cohort participants will gain 100% acceptance into college.

In year 4, youth reflect on the purpose of “leadership” in their lives and in their communities. The sessions here draw heavily on the skills and concepts in the Leadership and Communication tactics learned throughout the previous years and provide youth with practical forums for applying skills and concepts.

STEAM programs are a perfect way for youth to explore their leadership styles. At YE we use STEAM programs to challenge our students to take an innovative approach to problem-solving, work as a team to accomplish goals, and practice effective communication through presentations and public speaking.
